Mass General Brigham is seeking an experienced Nurse in Charge for the Oncology/Research unit on a 36-hour Night shift in Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital tower 9AB CCI. The NIC leads clinical staffing, cost-effective decisions, and participates in policy development and improvement initiatives.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Nursing, MA RN license, and 4–5 years oncology nursing with trial experience. Onsite location at 75 Francis Street, 36 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • MA Registered Nurse License required.
  • 4–5 years of oncology nursing experience, with direct first-in-human trial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead patient care area and plan daily staff assignments and supply usage.
  • Participate in policy development and evaluation of care delivery.
  • Support staff performance reviews and competency development.

Job Summary
Oncology/Research Nurse In Charge / 36hr Night / Tower 9AB CCI BWH

The Nurse in Charge (NIC) is a designated clinical leader for a given patient care area who works collaboratively with the Nursing Director (ND) in planning and implementing patient care at the service/department level. The Nurse in Charge is accountable for cost-effective decision-making regarding daily assignment of staff, use of supplies, and day-to-day operational decision-making. The NIC participates in clinical patient care standard development, evaluation of outcomes, and development of improvement initiatives.

The NIC participates in the assessment of staff performance through contributions to individual staff performance reviews. The NIC is accountable for identifying competency issues and participating in the development and implementation of the plan for performance improvement. The NIC reports to the Nursing Director.

Education

Bachelor's Degree Nursing required.

Licenses and Credentials

MA Registered Nurse License Required

Experience
  • - Minimum 4-5 years of experience in oncology nursing, specifically, with directly related expertise in first in human clinical trials required.
  • - Demonstrated leadership ability required
  • - IV Experience preferred
  • - Experience/knowledge in both investigator-driven and industry funded research preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • - Demonstrates clinical expertise in the assigned area.
  • - Utilizes current concepts of nursing practice in the management of patient care.
  • - Demonstrates the skills necessary to assist with development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • - Demonstrates the knowledge and skill to organize, coordinate, and participate in the evaluation of care delivery.
  • - Demonstrates effective interpersonal and leadership skills necessary to promote effective working relationships with all members of the healthcare team.
  • - Demonstrates the ability to deal effectively with stress relating to the changing organizational climate, personnel and patient care issues.
  • - Demonstrates effective skills in applying hospital standards in the areas of service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management.
  • - Membership in professional organizations is recommended and certification in specialty areas is encouraged.
