How you make a difference

The Registered Nurse Specialist in Oncology plays a critical role in providing specialized care to patients undergoing cancer treatment by utilizing the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Working under the supervision of Charge Nurses, you deliver education and guidance to patients, ensuring individualized care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in patient assessment, plan individualized treatment programs, and implement care under the supervision of the Nurse Practitioner or Charge Nurse, utilizing available resources and consulting with appropriate staff.
  • Administer medications, including IV therapy when certified, and coordinate specialty medication delivery while maintaining accurate regimen schedules and monitoring potential drug reactions.
  • Implement clinical aspects of care, including obtaining diagnostic tests, assisting in medical or minor surgical procedures, and responding to patient crises following established protocols.
  • Ensure safety and compliance by counting controlled substances, adhering to proper techniques for nutrition and therapeutic diet plans, and following standard precautions in care delivery.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care encounters, attend mandatory meetings and training, and communicate essential information to relevant staff and departments.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Experience
  • Prefer a minimum of one (1) year clinic experience.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state of employment.
  • Have and maintain specialized training documentation in area of clinical focus (for example, Hep‑C, HIV, Oncology, etc.).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR certification.
  • Candidate must have chemotherapy/oncology certification.
