Job summary

Novant Health is seeking an Oncology Registered Nurse in Winston-Salem, NC. This part-time position (24 hours per week, no weekends or holidays) focuses on infusion care, patient education, and supportive oncology services in the Cancer Clinic.

Requirements include NC (or compact) RN licensure, a nursing degree (BSN preferred), and 1–2 years of oncology experience. Commitment to obtaining OCN within 30 months is expected.

Qualifications

• RN licensure in NC or compact state.
• Nursing degree from accredited program; BSN preferred.
• Minimum of one to two years nursing experience, preferably in oncology.
• Willingness to earn Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) within 30 months.
• Knowledge of EMR/documentation and patient safety best practices.

Responsibilities

• Triage calls as needed and document information in the patient EMR.
• Room patients and assist physicians with treatment needs.
• Explain all processes to patients in plain language and use teach-back to confirm understanding.
• Collaborate with patient and support system to align care with preferences and needs.
• Provide infusion care, monitor treatments, and deliver one-on-one patient care.

Key Points:

What We’re Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.
• Experience: Minimum of one to two years nursing experience, preferably in an oncology environment, required.
• Licensure/Certification:
  • Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.
  • ENPC, TNCC or CEN; preferred.
  • NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire, required.
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN, BMT) within 30 months of employment with signed OCN education agreement, required.
• Additional Skills/Requirements (required): Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care. Displays excellent verbal and written communication skills. Possesses knowledge of NMG/FMC policies/standards. Demonstrates self-directed learning through completion of any orientation requirements, nursing certification/updates and continuing education programs. Possesses clinical assessment skills relative to the hematology or oncology patient/family. Experience and knowledge of the purpose and use of medications in the treatment of cancer.
