Contract Physician Qualifications and Standards
The contract physician(s) assigned by the Contractor must have a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. All licenses held by key personnel must be full and unrestricted; licenses that are restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action, or denied will disqualify the candidate.
Board Certification
- All contract physicians shall be board certified by the American Board of Radiology and hold current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or their equivalents. Continuing education requirements for maintaining certification must be up to date.
- The Radiation Oncology Services must be accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting body contracted through NROP.
- Contractors providing onsite radiation oncology services must adhere to guidelines and standards set by the American College of Radiology, American Society for Radiation Oncology, and American Association of Physicists in Medicine. Evidence that the radiation oncology practice meets or exceeds these standards must be provided.
- The radiation oncologist must possess an MD or DO degree, have graduated from a radiation oncology residency, be board certified in radiation oncology by the ABR, and have at least five (5) years of clinical experience beyond residency. Specific expertise and experience in procedures, equipment, and software include:
- 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT)
- At least three (3) years of experience in Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
- Experience with Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), with a minimum of 10 documented cases within the last two years
- Experience with Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), with a minimum of 10 documented cases within the last two years
- Three (3) years of experience with Eclipse treatment planning system and ARIA record & verify system, including 2D/3D treatment modalities
Technical Proficiency
Physicians must demonstrate knowledge of professional care principles, practices, and procedures relevant to radiation oncology, including growth, development, and disease pathophysiology specific to this patient population.
Standards of Practice
- The care provided must be evidence-based, aligning with the highest standards and performance measures applicable to medical professionals, including NHPP, AAPM, TJC, and other recognized guidelines in radiation oncology.
- The standard of care should meet or exceed current national standards established by applicable practice guidelines from ACR, ASTRO, AAPM, and TJC or equivalent accreditation bodies.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Direct Patient Care: approximately 90% of the physician's role.
