Job summary

Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute seeks a compassionate Physician Assistant to join the Inpatient Hematology/Oncology Service at Brigham and Women's Hospital. This role supports a new inpatient service with full-time, part-time, and per-diem opportunities, emphasizing collaborative practice and complex patient care.

Responsibilities include patient-centered assessments, order/result interpretation, plan development, and close coordination with physicians, nurses, and other providers.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Physician Assistant studies required.
  • Massachusetts Physician Assistant license required; image-based restrictions not acceptable.
  • Experience as a licensed PA preferred but not mandatory; higher value placed on licensure and readiness to practice.
  • Strong history-taking, clinical assessment, and adherence to guidelines and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered oncology care to inpatients.
  • Take comprehensive histories and perform exams for timely assessment.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate labs and imaging to guide decisions.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care with follow-up.
  • Prescribe medications and manage treatments per policy and standards.
  • Document accurately including admissions, progress, and discharge notes.
  • Perform bedside procedures appropriate to inpatient oncology and collaborate with the team.

Job Summary

Help launch and shape the future of inpatient oncology care at Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute. This is an exciting opportunity to join our inaugural Hematology Oncology Inpatient Service at Brigham and Women's Hospital as an Inpatient Responding Clinician, caring for patients during some of the most critical moments in their cancer journey.

We are seeking compassionate, highly motivated Physician Assistants to join Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute's Inpatient Service at BWH. Essential Functions

Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care, counseling, and education to a designated inpatient oncology population.

Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations to support timely clinical assessment and care planning.

Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic studies to guide clinical decision-making.

Develop and implement individualized plans of care and follow-up based on diagnostic results, physical examination findings, and patient needs.

Prescribe medications and manage treatments in accordance with organizational policies, clinical standards, and regulatory requirements.

Complete accurate, timely, and high-quality documentation, including admission notes, progress notes, procedure notes, and discharge summaries.

Perform bedside procedures appropriate to the patient population, scope of practice, and clinical setting.

Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary colleagues to coordinate care and support safe transitions throughout the inpatient stay.

Education

  • Master's Degree Physician Assistant required

  • Massachusetts Physician Assistant required

Experience

  • Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferred

  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
