Job summary

Carolina Oncology Specialists, Randolph Road, is seeking a Phlebotomist to join our outpatient oncology team. You will collect blood specimens, ensure proper labeling, and document results in the EMR while supporting clinicians in a fast-paced clinic environment.

The ideal candidate has phlebotomy training and certification, solid customer service skills, and experience in a healthcare setting, preferably oncology.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and specimen collection techniques.
• Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic documentation systems.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Training Program.
• Current Phlebotomy Certification (ASCP, NHA, NCCT, or equivalent).
• One (1) year or more of phlebotomy experience in a clinic, hospital, laboratory, or oncology setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures according to established policies and procedures.
• Verify patient identity and laboratory orders prior to specimen collection.
• Accurately label, process, prepare, and distribute specimens for testing.
• Maintain specimen integrity through proper handling, storage, and transportation practices.
• Document laboratory activities and patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Provide compassionate and professional patient care while explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns.
• Monitor patients for adverse reactions during and after specimen collection.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, infection control, and safety standards.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
• Assist with inventory management and ordering of laboratory supplies.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other staff to support efficient patient care and clinic operations.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, and required training programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
