Job summary

The Pharmacy Technician at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital assists in preparing and distributing medications under supervision of a licensed pharmacist, following department procedures and safety standards.

Responsibilities include using Pyxis, Cerner and PowerChart systems, dose calculations, aseptic techniques, inventory management, and timely communication with care teams; the role requires oncology exposure where possible and offers an hourly rate range of $25.69–$43.67.

Qualifications

• Req High school or equivalent.
• Req Specialized/technical training Graduation from accredited Pharmacy Technician School.
• Pref 1 year At least 1 year of oncology experience.
• Req Able to perform dose calculations, double checks accuracy of product selection and assures performance of both aseptic and hazardous drug compounding techniques that require the use of a USP797/800 compliant clean room and personal protective equipment to reduce exposure and contamination while maintaining sterility of the final product.
• Req Organization/time management skills.
• Req Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
• Req Must demonstrate excellent customer service.
• Req Pharmacy Technician (CA DCA) Registration with California State Board of Pharmacy.
• Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

Responsibilities

• Prepare and distribute medications under pharmacist supervision.
• Operate Pyxis system and ensure correct barcoding.
• Assist in chemotherapy preparation with Texium system.
• Handle charges and revenue recording.
• Maintain a safe, clean pharmacy following procedures and regulations.
• Document pharmacy logs.
• Manage monthly expiration assignments.
• Repackage/unit-dose medications with MILT4.
• Perform aseptic technique.
• Use Cerner/PowerChart/Pyxis to triage workflow for delivery.
