Job summary

TriStar Centennial Medical Center is seeking an Oncology Medical Surgical Nurse Manager to lead daily unit operations, staffing, and patient care quality. You will supervise nursing staff, ensure competency, and coordinate care across disciplines in a high-volume oncology med/surg setting.

The role requires an RN license in Tennessee or a compact state, 1 year of clinical experience, and prior leadership experience. Certifications in oncology/MED/SURG will be pursued within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

• RN licensure in Tennessee or compact state required.
• 1 year of related clinical experience required.
• Prior supervisory/leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Oncology/Med-Surg certification must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
• ONS Chemo/Biotherapy or related certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Help create a superior clinical identity by operationalizing evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and quality outcomes.
• Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development, assessment, treatment range, and care for patients across ages served.
• Manage staffing needs including interviewing, hiring and training.
• Oversee care of patients on unit, providing support and expertise to staff.
• Ensure completion of required competency checks and maintain unit workflow with proper staffing levels.
• Coordinate all unit activities including safety procedures, goals and department operations.
• Handle patient, visitor, or physician complaints promptly and professionally.
• Provide leadership, coaching and counseling to department staff.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to improve patient care delivery.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The 3 Central Oncology Med/Surg Manager ensures high quality, patient-centered care through oversight of the overall daily function and staffing of the unit/department. The Manager monitors and evaluates the provision of nursing care in accordance with established policies/procedures and holds staff accountable for quality and clinical outcomes in support of facility objectives.

What you will do in this role:

• Help create a superior clinical identity by operationalizing evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and quality outcomes, while ensuring adherence to standards of care.
• Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment, and care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served.
• Manage all staffing needs and personnel management including interviewing, hiring and training new staff members.
• Oversee care of patients on unit, providing consistent support and expertise to staff.
• Perform duties in accordance with unit specific standards of care and evidenced by completion of a competency skills check list.
• Maintain overall workflow of unit by ensuring proper staff levels.
• Manage and coordinate all unit activities including safety procedures, unit goals and department operations.
• Handle patient, visitor, or physician complaints promptly and in a professional manner.
• Provide leadership, coaching and counseling to department employees.
• Collaborate with other disciplines and departments to improve patient care delivery.

What qualifications you will need:

• RN Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Tennessee or compact state required.
• 1 year of related clinical experience required.
• Prior supervisory/leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN), or Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification (MEDSURG-BC), or Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
• ONS Chemo / Biotherapy Fundamentals Provider, or ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Provider must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
