Job summary

Virginia Cancer Specialists, an affiliate of McKesson Specialty Health and US Oncology, is seeking a Full Time Medical Assistant for our Old Town Alexandria office. Under direct supervision, you will assist physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment.

You will handle exam preparation, maintain rooms and schedules, and support administrative tasks to ensure smooth patient flow.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Minimum three years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required.
• Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

• Escorts patients to and from exam rooms and treatment areas.
• records patient data including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and med changes.
• Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
• Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
• Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated.
• Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
• Answers patient calls and refers to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
• Enters prescriptions and notifies physician of changes.
• Notifies physician of reschedules and no-shows.
• Performs administrative tasks as requested by supervisor or physician.
