Job summary

Virginia Cancer Specialists is seeking a Full Time Medical Assistant for our Old Town Alexandria office. The role supports physicians and clinical staff in a busy oncology/hematology setting, handling patient care, room preparation, and administrative duties.

Under supervision, you will assist with exams, injections, and patient data collection while adhering to compliance standards. Competitive benefits include medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, and 401(k).

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; Medical Assistants certificate preferred.
• Minimum three years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required.
• Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
• Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
• Obtain patient records as required; prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies.
• Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
• Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
• Maintain exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
• Answer patient telephone calls for referrals to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
• Enter prescriptions and communicate with physicians and RNs.
• Inform physician of patient reschedules and no-shows.
• Perform administrative duties as requested by supervisor or physician.
