Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates is seeking a licensed practical nurse to support our Norfolk offices while delivering quality cancer care. This full-time position offers a broad scope of responsibilities in a fast-paced oncology setting.

The LPN will assist with procedures, coordinate care, prepare charts, and ensure smooth patient flow across clinics. Travel between offices is required as needed, with a focus on patient safety and accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing.
• Current CPR certification required.
• Willing to travel between offices when needed.
• Minimum of two years experience as a practical nurse in a hospital or clinic setting preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with injections, pap smears, biopsies, and LEEP procedures.
• Prep lab specimens for send out.
• Assess patients for changes in condition, including abnormal labs, x-rays, scans.
• Set up procedures (port placement and blood transfusion), referrals, and obtain prior authorization.
• Obtain pathology reports, manage faxes, and return emergent and non-emergent patient phone calls.
• Maintain efficient and appropriate patient flow.
• Document all elements of care.
• Serve as a resource to the Medical Assistants.
• Communicate all pertinent information to the physician, nurse, or provider.
• Assess patient and family needs.
• Complete new patient chart prep for review at first appointment.
• Monitor navigating care tickets and prescription refill line.
