Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates in Norfolk seeks an experienced LPN to support our oncology clinics. This full-time, in-person role involves assisting with injections, biopsies, lab prep, patient assessments, and coordinating care with physicians and nurses.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent; graduate from an accredited PN program.
  • Current LPN license and State Board registration.
  • Minimum two years' practical nurse experience preferred but not required.
  • CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with injections, pap smears, biopsies, and LEEP procedures.
  • Prep lab specimens for send-out.
  • Assess patients for changes in condition and abnormal labs.
  • Set up procedures (port placement, transfusions), referrals, and prior authorizations.
  • Obtain pathology reports, manage faxes, and respond to patient calls.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow and document care.
  • Serve as a resource to Medical Assistants and communicate with the care team.
  • Ensure complete patient workups are available for first provider review.

Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for an LPN to support our offices located in Norfolk.

Compensation Range

Compensation Range: $19.50 - $46.20. Actual compensation will be determined based on location and job-related factors such as, relevant experience, education, certifications, licensure, and skills that align with the role.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with injections, pap smears, biopsies, and LEEP procedures.
  • Prep lab specimens for send out.
  • Assess patients for changes in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans.
  • Set up procedures (i.e. port placement and blood transfusion), referrals, and obtain prior authorization.
  • Obtain pathology reports, manage faxes, and return emergent and non-emergent patient phone calls.
  • Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow.
  • Documents all elements of care.
  • Serve as a resource to the Medical Assistants.
  • Communicate all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician, nurse, or advanced practice provider
  • Assess patient and family needs.
  • Complete new patient chart prep for physician team ensuring all elements of the patients work up is available to for review upon first appointment with provider
  • monitor the navigating care tickets and prescription refill line
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.
  • Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
  • Minimum of two years-experience as a practical nurse in a hospital or clinic setting preferred but not required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Must be willing to travel between offices when needed.
