Job summary

Maryland Oncology Hematology is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist in medication preparation under registered supervision in a licensed pharmacy. You will verify orders, admix IV medications, manage inventory, and ensure regulatory compliance and patient safety.

The role requires IV skills, a high school diploma, and pharmacy experience. Certification is preferred depending on state law. This is a full-time on-site position offering a competitive hourly wage.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of experience in a pharmacy with IV skills.
• IV certification preferred.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician certification recommended unless required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Prepare medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision.
• Verify all orders for completeness, accuracy, and insurance approval; ensure proper patient information and physician authorization.
• Admix drugs as ordered by a physician in an accurate and timely manner, adhering to department, OSHA, and interoffice guidelines.
• Calculate correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
• Maintain indigent patient drug program as assigned.
• Maintain current drug information and MSDS.
• Assist lead admixture/pharmacy technician in ensuring standard drug supplies are adequate in all departments.
• Assist in controlled substance record keeping in accordance with practice guidelines, state and federal regulations.
• Dispose of materials used in mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs in accordance with practice guidelines, state and federal law.
• Clean hoods daily, check drugs monthly for outdates, and perform and document other quality assurance activities.
• Maintain accurate temperature logs and logs for protocol and patient assistance drugs.
• Manage inventory appropriately, including proper documentation of inventory quantities, lot numbers and expiration dating when appropriate.
• Provide support across the medication use continuum including label preparation, documentation perform basic data entry and pre-billing review, , and order medications and supplies as directed.
• Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admixture area and the pharmacy department in accordance with state rules and USP compliance.
