Overview

Oncology Data Specialist – Contract, Days. Location: AdventHealth Daytona Beach. Schedule: 8am-5pm, Days. Weeks: 26 (Remote).

Role: Oncology Data Specialist (Contract StaffFlex)

Responsibilities
  • Identify reportable cancer cases for suspense file through review of pathology reports, radiation oncology treatment notes, gynecologic oncology treatment notes, and the merge file.
  • Collate data from various sources as new cases into computerized suspense file.
  • Complete all required supportive documents and follow-up documentation for each identified patient.
  • Accurately abstract reportable cases in a timely manner according to American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS CoC) and Florida Cancer Data Systems (FCDS) guidelines; complete corrections to FCDS edits within the assigned time frame; enter follow-up data into abstracts as appropriate.
  • Initiate involvement in special projects within the Cancer Registry department; coordinate and complete physician abstract quality assurance reviews to meet the ACoS standard of 300 charts reviewed annually; compile and share results with leadership; collaborate with leadership to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement; collaborate with other healthcare professionals to support data collection for statistical reports, quality control studies, and other requests; analyze trends in data and share findings with leadership.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) and an Associate degree in Healthcare or Health Information Management, OR
  • Minimum of 3 years of cancer registry abstraction experience with ODS Certification;
  • Completion of education program and/or work experience required for Certified Tumor Registrar, as defined by the National Cancer Registrars’ Association;
  • ODS Certified with NCRA; FCDS Abstractor Code issued by the Florida Cancer Data System.
