What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
- Identify and register cases, including malignancies on the reportable list and cases selected by medical staff
- Analyze, abstract, and code selected cases using various oncology manuals
- Serve as a liaison to internal and external customers regarding registry functions
- Review quality control reports and collaborate with the cancer registry team to maintain high satisfaction levels
- Maintain automated records and filing systems for efficient registry operations
What is Required (Qualifications)
- Certification as an Oncology Data Specialist required within two years of hire
- Excellent knowledge of medical terminology and cancer staging
- Strong working knowledge of the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer accreditation standards
- Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external customers
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Office, particularly Microsoft Excel
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
- Coursework in anatomy and physiology
- Experience working at a CoC-accredited facility
- Exposure to multiple patient medical record systems (EMRs) and clinical databases
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of responsibility in handling PHI securely
