Job Summary

Memorial Hermann's Cancer Center, located in the Texas Medical Center, seeks an Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to join our outpatient team.

Must be residency trained. PGY2 Residency in Oncology is highly desired.

Schedule: M-F, 8 to 4:30 p.m.; on call is required.

The position develops, implements, and monitors clinical pharmacy programs to improve patient care with an additional focus on decreasing costs; provides clinical services to patients and professional staff; interacts with medical staff on drug utilization and cost containment. May assist in supervising the activities of all department employees in consultation with the department Director and/or Pharmacy Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science with equivalent experience or a clinically oriented Master of Science degree or Doctorate of Pharmacy degree; completion of ASHP accredited pharmacy practice residency or fellowship or demonstration of equivalent experience preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: Licensure in the State of Texas; Pharmacy Sterile Product certification through an in-house program or other accredited program if appropriate.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

• Ability to promote teamwork, build effective relationships, and lead/facilitate work groups.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Knowledge of pharmacy and hospital computer systems and computer-assisted devices.
• Familiarity with healthcare reimbursement environment.

Principal Accountabilities

• Develops and maintains effective communication systems for staff.
• Serves as a role model by educating, mentoring, and supporting pharmacy students, staff, residents, and peers.
• Identifies opportunities for cost containment.
• Works on improving clinical pharmacy services and identifies areas for improvement.
• Plans and manages resources for continuity of care between patient care areas, Pharmacy, and other settings.
• Participates in orientation and continuing education; serves as a resource to staff, physicians, and nurses.
• Assists with clinical research on drug outcomes.
• Develops and evaluates drug programs, performance indicators, and cost containment initiatives.
• Implements utilization reviews for expensive or potentially harmful drugs.
• Guides the development of clinical pharmacy educational services and participates in educational programs.
• Oversees the clinical students/residency program.
• Ensures safe patient care, adheres to policies, and manages resources efficiently.
• Supports professional growth and development of staff and students.
• Creates compassionate and personalized experiences, modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
