Job summary

Loft is hiring an Onboard Software Engineer - Deployment & Runtime Environments to build and maintain onboard deployment and runtime environments for satellite software. You will work across Linux internals, container runtimes, and CI pipelines to enable secure workloads in orbit.

The role emphasizes ownership, fast iteration, and collaboration across teams as we scale our satellite programs and extend our container runtime for external workloads.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, or similar)
• Deep Linux system knowledge: boot process, service management, filesystem layout, and failure recovery
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab-CI, Jenkins, or similar)
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows
• Experience with embedded or resource‑constrained systems
• Working Python

Responsibilities

• Contribute to and evolve our bundle management tool for dependencies and stacks
• Develop and harden onboard Linux infrastructure for deployment and execution
• Evolve the Runtime Container Environment for secure workloads and container manager/registry services
• Support scaling of the deployment pipeline as new hardware platforms are added
• Contribute to Product Validation before software goes to orbit
• Design, implement, and refine software with ownership from concept through delivery
• Participate in code reviews, design proposals, and process improvements
