Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Employee in Charge (EIC) to provide essential on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners.

Based in South Bend, IN, this position involves extensive field work, reporting, and direct communication with dispatchers and crews. Travel of 50% to 85% is common, with a requirement for a valid license and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Proficiency with tablets, smartphones, and communication tools to coordinate train movements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Provide On-Track Safety such as setup of derails, track signs, and safety tools.
• Prepare daily field reports and report any rule violations.
• Provide job-site coordination between crews and dispatch.
• Maintain radio contact with dispatchers and train crews to communicate safety status.
• Conduct mandatory briefings with all crew members before entry to track.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
