Job summary

City of Brownsville is seeking a Transit Operator to drive a public transit bus on fixed routes and para-transit services, upholding safety, timeliness and courtesy. You will perform pre/post-trip inspections, report defects, and assist passengers, including those with mobility devices, while adhering to all traffic laws.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED plus one year of experience.
• Must have Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
• Medical Certificate (FMCSA).
• Must be familiar and able to operate a computer.

Responsibilities

• Safely operates a public transit bus in all types of weather, traffic, emergency situations or conditions.
• Thoroughly inspects and performs pre-trip and post-trip daily inspections; report defects and needed repairs.
• Comply with all State and local traffic laws, safety rules, and procedures.
• Provide friendly customer service and information about schedules, routes, fares, and City services.
• Operate wheelchair lift/ramp and assist passengers as needed.
