Job summary

Virtua Health in Voorhees, NJ seeks a Patient Care Technician (PCT) to assist with daily living activities under the direction of a registered nurse or LPN. You will support the healthcare team and families while upholding high standards of professional ethics.

Responsibilities include vital signs, phlebotomy and EKGs if certified, and maintaining standard precautions. You will help educate patients and participate in quality initiatives and new-hire orientation.

Qualifications

• Must have strong communication skills.
• Demonstrates knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures and standards.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of a PCT course, a fundamentals nursing course in an RN program, CNA program, or 1 year of direct patient care experience.
• BLS certification.
• Phlebotomy training/education is required for Emergency Department positions.
• Ongoing education and training to maintain competencies.

Responsibilities

• Assists with activities of daily living: bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, toileting, mobility and transport.
• Maintains standard precautions and safe patient practices, including isolation precautions.
• Performs duties as directed by RN/LPN: vital signs, point-of-care testing, bladder scanning, Foley care.
• May perform phlebotomy and EKGs if certified.
• Communicates changes in patient status to RN/LPN and responds appropriately.
• Reinforces patient and family education on care needs and safety.
• Participates in patient satisfaction initiatives and performance improvement activities.
• Assists in orientation of new hires.
