Job summary

Ghafari Associates in the United States (Warsaw, Indiana onsite) seeks a Packaging Engineer to oversee packaging from prototype through procurement and production readiness. You will review part characteristics, supplier locations, and transport modes to define cost-efficient packaging solutions while coordinating prototype builds and validation tests.

The role requires hands-on experience with automotive packaging, returnable and expendable solutions, and SOP readiness to support timely program

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 3+ years in packaging engineering, logistics, or manufacturing engineering; automotive/high-volume preferred.
• 2+ years as expendable packaging estimator or buyer preferred.
• Hands-on experience developing, validating, and launching shipping packaging solutions for automotive/high-volume programs.
• Experience with returnable and expendable packaging solutions, including racks, dunnage, containers, and supplier-provided packaging.
• Experience with automotive launch timing, prototype builds, and SOP readiness.
• Experience identifying cost reduction opportunities through right-sizing, standard containers, and better pack density.

Responsibilities

• Lead shipping packaging development from prototype through procurement and production readiness.
• Review part characteristics, handling, supplier locations, and transport modes to define packaging solutions.
• Support Purchasing by reviewing packaging costs to align with market trends.
• Drive cost and density improvements for expendable packaging.
• Coordinate prototype packaging builds, design reviews, and validation testing.
• Support RFQ packages, quote reviews, and supplier selection with Purchasing and Supply Chain.
• Collaborate with Packaging, Fabrication, Manufacturing, Quality, Logistics, and Engineering to resolve issues.
• Ensure packaging supports safe handling, labeling, and damage prevention.
• Track risks, open issues, supplier deliverables, and production packaging delivery timing.
