Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an On-Site Mechanical Engineer for a project near Baton Rouge, LA. The role serves as the field representative for mechanical systems, supporting installation, issue resolution, and commissioning preparation while coordinating between construction teams and the engineering design group.

You will manage HVAC, cooling, piping, and other mechanical systems; perform site observations; review layouts; respond to RFIs; and deliver weekly reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years in mechanical design, construction, commissioning, or operations; or 5+ years in hyperscale data centers.
• Experience with chilled water systems and CRAC/CRAH in mission-critical environments.
• Strong knowledge of specs, codes, and industry standards.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site rep for HVAC, cooling, piping, plumbing, and other mechanical systems.
• Perform daily site observations and assess installation progress and workmanship.
• Coordinate mechanical design clarifications and field solutions with project stakeholders.
• Facilitate responses to RFIs, submittals, equipment substitutions, and field conflicts.
• Support reviews of equipment layouts, utility routing, and coordination between trades.
• Participate in constructability reviews, BIM coordination, and mockup evaluations.
• Identify and document mechanical installation deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
• Support factory testing, bench testing, startup activities, and commissioning preparation.
• Coordinate with QA/QC and commissioning teams to resolve installation issues.
• Attend project meetings and provide technical guidance on mechanical systems.
• Issue weekly reports summarizing observations, risks, corrective actions, and schedule impacts.
• Proactively identify design, quality, and schedule risks and support resolution strategies.
