Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an on-site Mechanical Engineer for a project near Baton Rouge, LA. You will serve as the field representative for mechanical systems, coordinating between construction and design teams to ensure safe, compliant, and timely delivery of critical infrastructure.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and 10+ years’ or 5+ years in hyperscale data centers, with experience in chilled water systems, cooling plants, and CRAH/CRAC units.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 10+ years of mechanical design, construction, commissioning, or operations experience; or 5+ years in hyperscale data center environments.
• Experience with chilled water systems, cooling plants, CRAH/CRAC, piping, and mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the on-site representative for mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, plumbing).
• Perform daily site observations to assess progress and workmanship.
• Coordinate design clarifications and field solutions with stakeholders.
• Support RFIs, submittals, equipment substitutions, and field conflicts.
• Review equipment layouts and utility routing; coordinate between trades.
• Participate in BIM coordination, constructability reviews, and mockups.
• Identify installation deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
• Support factory/startup/commissioning activities and QA/QC resolution.
• Attend project meetings and provide technical guidance on mechanical systems.
• Issue weekly reports with observations, risks, corrective actions, and schedule impacts.
