Job summary

American Public Media Group in Minnesota is seeking an on-call Audio Engineer to create high-quality live broadcasts, recordings, and podcasts for national audiences. You will collaborate with hosts, producers, and technical teams across APM|MPR to deliver exceptional content.

Candidates welcome with studio, broadcast, live sound, and podcast production backgrounds. The role involves live mixing, multi‑channel processing, and operating DAWs and consoles, with on-site work and a compensation

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
3+ years in audio engineering, live sound, studio production, or related audio fields.
Strong portfolio through professional, freelance, or community work.
Fluency in Pro Tools or Adobe Audition expected.

Responsibilities

Perform live audio mixing for on-air and studio.
Mix and process audio for multi-channel distribution.
Recording and mixing of talk and music-based content.
Mix stories, podcasts, and interviews under quick deadlines.
Maintain knowledge of in-house software editing platforms (Dalet, Pro Tools, Adobe Audition) and consoles (Axia, Midas, Yamaha).
Test codecs and equipment for live broadcasts (Comrex, LiveU, Opal, etc.).
Operate audio/visual systems for events and meetings.
Record audio for in-house and field recording.
Respond to production requests promptly.
Collaborate with hosts and producers.
Provide excellent customer service.
