Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking an On-Site Flight Systems Test Engineer to join the Sentinel program at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. You will work on-site with the Sponsor, manage flight systems testing, and coordinate with the APL on-site team and government partners to ensure mission success.

Ideal candidates hold a B.S. in Engineering/Math/Physics with 2+ years in test engineering or flight test analysis and are ready to relocate to Utah.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics (or closely related field) with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in test engineering, flight test analysis, or flight system development.
  • Ability to translate sponsor needs into verifiable system requirements.
  • Willingness to relocate to Utah near Hill AFB and to travel occasionally.
  • Active security clearance or ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as part of APL's Hill AFB-based team supporting the Sentinel program.
  • Interface with sponsor to understand needs and support decision making.
  • Address system engineering activities across the V model, from requirements to integration and flight test.
  • Support system-level trade studies (aerodynamics, propulsion, GNC, structures).
  • Participate in live flight test activities, including data acquisition and range safety.
  • Attend milestone reviews and TIMs to align stakeholders on objectives and risks.
  • Translate complex engineering data into concise briefings and recommendations.

Education

B.S. in Engineering/Mathematics/Physics
M.S. in Engineering/Mathematics/Physics
2+ years relevant technical experience
