Job summary

The Nevada Department of Transportation’s Environmental Services Division in Carson City, NV seeks an Environmental Scientist 3 to conduct biological surveys, prepare reports, and secure permits under NEPA and the Endangered Species Act. This on-site role requires authorization to work for any employer in the U.S.

and includes environmental program development and regulatory compliance across air, water and related programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience.
• OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above.
• OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist 2 in Nevada State service.
• OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop program documents such as the annual program plan, quarterly activities report, environmental assessments, technical reports and environmental impact statements.
• Review existing program standards; research, compile and verify data; analyze data and trends related to regulations.
• Develop regulations, procedures and protocols and draft legislation; provide information and technical assistance to the public and regulated community.
• Prepare reports for planning or requests from the legislature, EPA or DEP administration; conduct public hearings.
• Conduct inspections to ensure regulatory compliance; manage enforcement actions and prepare notices of violation.
• Input and access data to/from EPA data systems; perform computer modeling and evaluate environmental data.
