Job summary

VSolvit, LLC is seeking a Data Scientist to develop and validate multi-variable forecasting models and maintain predictive analytics for financial data and agency expenditures. You will own data lifecycles from scraping to transformation and provide clear insights to leadership.

The role requires strong mathematics, Python expertise, and experience with backtesting, model monitoring, and communicating complex results to non-technical stakeholders in a fast-paced, on-site environment in Norco, CA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field and at least three years of professional experience.
• Master's or Ph.D. may substitute part of the experience requirement.

Responsibilities

• Time Series & Modeling: develop, validate, and maintain multi-variable forecasting models (ARIMA, Prophet, regression, etc.).
• Data Pipeline: build Python scripts and pipelines to scrape, clean, join, validate, and transform financial data.
• Model Validation: implement backtesting and time-based cross-validation with monitoring workflows.
• Feature Engineering: analyze pricing, inflation, economic indicators, and spending patterns for defensible features.
• Model Performance: evaluate RMSE/MAE/MAPE, prevent leakage and look‑ahead bias.
• Technical Ownership: document assumptions, data dependencies, and recommended uses of outputs.
• Stakeholder Communication: translate results into reports and leadership briefings.
• Guidance: provide code reviews and mentoring to junior staff.
• Learning: explore new forecasting and ML approaches to improve workflows.
• Compliance & Security: adhere to defense security and data handling policies.
