Job summary

VSolvit, LLC. is seeking an entry-level Data Scientist I focused on financial and time-series forecasting. You will build, validate, and maintain multi-variable forecasting models for financial data and agency expenditures over multi-year horizons.

You will scrape and transform datasets, implement validation workflows, and communicate results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders while aligning with defense security policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, CS, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Engineering or related quantitative field.
• Recent graduates with up to 2 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
• Foundational knowledge of linear algebra, calculus, probability, statistics.

Responsibilities

• Time Series & Mathematical Modeling: Develop and evaluate forecasting models (ARIMA, Prophet, regression, tree-based).
• Data Pipeline Construction: Write Python scripts to scrape, extract, clean, join, and transform financial data from various sources.
• Model Validation: Run validation workflows, compare performance using RMSE, MAE, MAPE, detect data quality or leakage issues.
• Feature Engineering: Analyze pricing, inflation, budgets, and spending to create forecasting features.
• Data Analysis & Documentation: Conduct EDA and document data sources, assumptions, transformations, results, limitations.
• Stakeholder Communication: Create reports and visualizations to explain findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Learning: Adapt to new domain requirements and forecasting methods under guidance.
• Compliance & Security: Adhere to defense security protocols and internal data handling policies.
