Job summary

Musical Theatre West, based in Long Beach, California, seeks an experienced Costume Designer for The Prince of Egypt at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center. This locally based, on-site role requires coordinating rentals, purchases, and fittings for a large-scale musical.

The designer will collaborate with the director and team, source costumes from local rental houses, manage budgets and schedules, and ensure fittings and technical rehearsals are completed on time.

Qualifications

• Professional costume design experience with larger-scale musical is required.
• Must be locally based in Los Angeles County, Orange County, or the surrounding Southern California area.
• Must have reliable transportation and availability to visit costume rental houses and vendors in person.
• Familiarity with Southern California theatrical costume rental and sourcing resources.
• Experience managing large ensembles, multiple costume changes, and costume budgets.
• Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
• Ability to work within established production budgets and deadlines.
• Must be available on-site beginning the week of January 25, 2027.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Director and creative team to develop and execute the costume design.
• Research and develop costume concepts, renderings, and costume plots.
• Visit local theatrical costume rental houses and vendors to source and pull costumes.
• Coordinate costume rentals, purchases, alterations, and construction within the approved budget.
• Work closely with Production Management, the Costume Shop, Wardrobe Supervisor, and Wig/Hair Designer.
• Attend fittings, production meetings, and technical rehearsals as required.
• Oversee the costume design process through opening.
