Job summary

Cleary University seeks a strategic Chief Financial Officer to guide financial planning, reporting, and investment across a growing private university with campuses in Howell and Detroit. The role partners with the President and executive team to balance growth, margins, and mission while scaling programs for working adults.

The CFO will oversee budgeting, financial operations, and compliance, driving sophisticated financial models, pricing, and capital allocation to support program expansion

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, accounting, or related field.
• Minimum of five years of accounting or financial management experience in higher education or similar setting.
• Five years of progressively responsible leadership in financial planning, budgeting, and operations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee budgeting, accounting, financial analysis, and reporting in accordance with GAAP and in collaboration with external auditors.
• Direct tax reporting and ensure compliance with IRS regulations and State of Michigan requirements.
• Develop and implement policies, standards, and procedures related to financial operations and controls.
• Partner with the President and senior leadership to align financial planning with institutional priorities and growth.
• Collaborate with advancement leadership to support fundraising initiatives and financial infrastructure for campaigns.
