Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• 1–3 years' experience in death investigations.
• Certification through ABMDI within 2 years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Respond to scenes physically and/or telephonically investigate reports of death.
• Interview pertinent individuals and document findings.
• Photograph and record postmortem findings at the scene.
• Prepare reports for death scene investigations prior to examination.
• Testify in court regarding investigation reports.
• May assist pathologist with autopsies and photograph autopsy findings.
• Coordinate with families, funeral homes, and law enforcement as needed.
