Job summary

GrayMar Environmental Services seeks a Vessel Operator to safely operate and navigate vessels supporting environmental emergency response. This on-call role focuses on rapid deployment, on-water logistics, and protecting waterways and shorelines.

You will work with hazmat and field teams, follow regulatory safety procedures, and document operations efficiently. Preferred USCG Captain’s license (OUPV or higher); WA State Boater’s Card considered.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • USCG Captain’s license preferred; WA State Boater’s Card considered.
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience operating small vessels in marine or inland waters.

Responsibilities

  • Operate standby vessels to support oil spill response, hazmat cleanup, boom deployment, wildlife protection, and environmental monitoring activities.
  • Maintain vessel readiness, fueling, inspections, and safety equipment.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs on short notice in challenging conditions.
  • Deploy, retrieve, and tend containment boom with response teams.
  • Transport personnel, equipment, and materials to incident sites following safety protocols.
  • Assist hazmat and environmental technicians with on-water sampling and shoreline assessments.
  • Follow USCG, OSHA, EPA, and company safety procedures.
  • Document vessel operations and maintenance records.
  • Participate in drills and trainings to maintain readiness.
