Schedule and Calendar:

As a charter school, Jefferson RISE sets its own academic calendar and daily schedule based on the needs of its students. Teachers generally work from mid-July (beginning with professional development before students arrive) through late May.

Workdays are generally 7:10 AM - 3:45 PM, Monday through Friday. Mondays extend to 4:30 PM and include mandatory Professional Development time. Anticipated school hours and days vary annually based on changes to the school calendar.

Position Summary

Jefferson RISE Charter School is seeking reliable and adaptable On-Call Substitute Teachers to provide classroom coverage for scheduled staff absences throughout the school year.

On-Call Substitute Teachers are part of a substitute pool and are contacted as coverage needs arise, typically 24-48 hours before an assignment. Most assignments will be for a full school day, although half-day assignments may occasionally be available. Substitutes may accept or decline individual assignments based on their availability.

When working an assignment, On-Call Substitute Teachers are responsible for maintaining a safe, structured classroom and ensuring instruction continues according to the absent teacher's plans and school expectations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction & Classroom Management

• Follow teacher-provided lesson plans and instructional materials
• Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful classroom environment
• Keep students engaged and on task throughout the class period
• Establish positive and professional relationships with students
• Reinforce schoolwide expectations, routines, and procedures
• Provide appropriate support and redirection when needed

Adaptability & Problem Solving

• Provide coverage across different grade levels, subjects, and classrooms
• Learn and follow classroom and school procedures with limited preparation time
• Respond to changes or unexpected situations calmly and professionally
• Ask for assistance when needed and follow guidance from school staff

Professional Responsibilities

• Report to accepted assignments on time and remain for the full scheduled assignment
• Take accurate attendance and follow required classroom procedures
• Ensure student work and classroom materials are appropriately managed
• Communicate relevant information from the school day to appropriate staff
• Maintain student confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Follow Jefferson RISE policies, procedures, and staff expectations

COMPENSATION

On-Call Substitute Teachers are paid hourly for assignments worked. This is an as-needed position, and hours and assignments are not guaranteed.

• Daily Rate: $180-$220 per day
• Compensation is based on actual hours worked for accepted assignments
• Assignments are typically full-day, with occasional half-day opportunities
• Paid twice monthly on the 15th and last day of each month
• This position is not eligible for performance-based raises, bonuses, or supplemental stipends unless otherwise approved by the school
