On-Call Substitute School Nurse (RN) – District-Wide

Job summary

Wethersfield Public Schools in Connecticut is seeking a Substitute School Nurse to join our district-wide health services team. The on-call pool supports planned and unplanned openings across elementary, middle, and high schools.

Work hours vary by site and need, with compensation at $300 per day worked. The ideal candidate will be an experienced nurse possessing a CT RN license, a BS in Nursing, and the ability to collaborate with teachers, families, and health staff to maintain a safe school

Qualifications

• Valid RN license from CT State Department of Health.
• Minimum BS degree in Nursing.
• Two or more years of nursing experience (prefer at least one year with children).

Responsibilities

• Fill in as a member of the school team as the designated health professional (e.g. Planning and Placement Team, 504 Team, Crisis Team).
• Maintain accurate, comprehensive, well-organized records, logs, surveys and reports.
• Confer with parents, students, teachers, support staff and other professionals to interpret health and developmental assessments; monitor students with special needs.
• Support compliance with Connecticut State mandated physical examinations and immunization requirements.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments for students in school and/or school sponsored activities.
• Provide health care treatment and/or emergency services to injured or ill students and staff.
• Assist families in obtaining a medical home, HUSKY state health insurance, needed immunizations, dental care or other health related needs.
• Attend staff meetings and perform other nursing duties or professional tasks.
