Job summary

The Salvation Army, through its Serendipity team, seeks a Direct Care Staff member to implement activities and provide care for program participants. You will support individuals with aging and dementia, follow care plans, monitor health, document logs, and maintain a safe, respectful environment.

Strong communication and teamwork are essential. Must pass background checks and adhere to Salvation Army policies; prior experience with seniors preferred; HS diploma required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or better; Associates Degree preferred.
• One year experience working with senior or other special needs population.
• Knowledge of effects of ADRD and care that supports well-being.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing; maintain harmonious relationships.
• Ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize work.
• Acceptable criminal history backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Implements group, individual, and community activities in a structured, timely manner to promote well-being.
• Works within the participant's care plan, shows flexibility and supports autonomy.
• Completes daily attendance, activity, and toileting logs.
• Creates an atmosphere of safety, trust, acceptance, and dignity; uses verbal/nonverbal skills.
• Attends in-services, trainings, staff meetings, and team briefings.
• Monitors health and wellbeing; communicates any concerns to supervisor.
• Assists with daily living activities including eating, toileting, hygiene, transfers, and ambulation.
• Follows kitchen protocol and food safety; accommodates dietary needs.
