Job summary

Mansfield City School District is seeking an on-call van driver to transport students and staff safely in accordance with district policies and state laws. The role requires clear driving records, adherence to safety inspections, and cooperation with the transportation supervisor.

The driver will maintain routes and passenger lists, enforce proper use of restraints, and communicate any issues promptly. Availability for after-hours events may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Clear criminal record documentation.
• Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
• Satisfactory pre-employment and ongoing random drug testing per federal/state requirements.
• Possess and maintain the Van Driver Certification from the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce.
• Demonstrates interest in and empathy for children.
• Able to manage pupil behavior and assist students with disabilities.
• Maintain professional appearance and follow district dress code.
• Alternative qualifications may be considered by the Superintendent/Board of Education.
• Ability to walk up and down steps and along the van aisle.

Responsibilities

• Operates the assigned vehicle according to motor vehicle laws; informs supervisor of issues.
• Drives a passenger van; coordinates with transportation to schedule changes and incidents.
• Perform minor first aid when needed.
• Maintain daily records of routes, passenger lists, miles, and route sheets.
• Stay knowledgeable about driving laws affecting transporting school children.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections.
• Ensure seat belts and child restraints are secured.
• Notify supervisor of mechanical issues or lateness.
• Discharge students at authorized stops and transport only authorized students.
• Complete accident reports for follow-up actions.
• Keep vehicle interior/exterior clean and maintain proper use of school property.
• Attend transportation meetings and be available for emergencies.
• Assist with school-sponsored events and field trips as needed.
• Respect confidentiality of student information.
