Job summary

East Haven Public Schools is seeking an on-call Substitute Custodian/Maintenance to cover absences in district facilities. The role involves cleaning, maintaining floors, windows, restrooms, and general building upkeep across multiple sites.

Responsibilities include operating cleaning equipment and basic maintenance tasks, responding to emergencies, and coordinating with the Buildings and Grounds supervisor.

Qualifications

• Graduation from High School or one (1) year’s employment in building care and cleaning operations.
• Some knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in building custodial work.
• Ability to follow written and oral instruction; ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in work; ability to plan work schedules and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and is responsible for the conditions of the entire building including floors and stairways as needed.
• This is an on-call position to cover absences for our full time custodian/maintenance staff.
• Responds to emergency calls from teachers; operates hand and power equipment; tends, adjusts and cleans heating plant; locks and unlocks premises.
