Job summary

School City of Hobart is seeking substitute bus drivers to cover routes and trips as needed, ensuring safe and timely transportation for students. This on-call role requires alertness, adherence to district policies, and safe operation of district vehicles.

Qualified applicants must be at least 21 years old with a valid Indiana driver’s license and must be able to obtain a CDL Class B with required endorsements and the Indiana school bus certification (yellow card).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be 21 years old or older.
• Valid Indiana driver's license or ability to obtain.
• Ability to obtain CDL Class B with endorsements (Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brake).
• Ability to obtain Indiana school bus certification (yellow card).
• Ability to meet medical/physical qualification requirements for commercial driving, including physical exams and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive a school bus on designated routes and activity trips, loading/unloading students at designated locations.
• Follow all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and district procedures related to student transportation.
• Use required warning devices and safety equipment in accordance with training and district procedures.
• Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report mechanical concerns immediately and complete required documentation and reports.
• Maintain a clean, orderly bus interior; refuel as needed in accordance with district procedures.
• Maintain order and discipline among students and report incidents per district policies.
• Complete post-route child-check procedures to ensure no child is left on the bus, and participate in required safety drills.
