Qualifications

  • Valid Florida Driver's License is required.
  • Duties include assisting with daily living activities and documenting client care.

Job Description

The primary function of this position is to assist elderly and/or disabled clients with household duties and/or personal care such as bathing, dressing, feeding, etc. The on-call nature of the position requires availability to work varied shifts. This position reports to the Manager of In-Home Services and Nutrition.

Essential Job Functions
  • Performs shopping duties for the client, including picking up groceries and medications, and running errands as needed.
  • Performs housekeeping duties, including cleaning, changing sheets, and doing laundry.
  • Prepares light meals and snacks as needed.
  • Provides personal hygiene care for the client, such as bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, and mobility support.
  • Observes the client's health and reports any changes or concerns to the supervisor.
  • Keeps records and completes required paperwork, submitting it to the supervisor in a timely fashion and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respects client privacy in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Travels in the performance of daily duties.
  • Provides emotional companionship to the client with a compassionate and patient demeanor.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
  • In the event of special, emergency, or disaster situations, employee may be required to work schedules other than those for which they are scheduled in any capacity deemed appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED. One (1) year minimum of prior related work experience.
  • Special Qualifications: Must have a valid Florida Driver's License. Must hold a current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license or Home Health Aide (HHA) certificate. Must pass the Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) and Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) Level II background screen immediately upon hire and renew every five (5) years. Must complete a minimum of six (6) hours of in-service training provided through Monroe County Community Services annually to satisfy DOEA requirements.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to have guidelines for work, but determine the approach for doing the work. Ability to perform work that necessitates some specialized knowledge of clerical tasks. Ability to work in a responsive environment where co-workers or citizens bring problems for resolution; ability to determine problems and create individual solutions for issues. Ability to work primarily alone.
Physical Demands

The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound. Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes. Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely. Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
