Job summary

Anoka County is seeking a Field Investigator to assist forensic pathologists by performing death scene investigations in Minnesota on an on-call basis. You will identify decedents, notify next of kin, photograph scenes, collect evidence, and document findings to aid pathologists in determining cause and manner of death.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience; equivalent education/experience may be substituted.
• Experience with death scene investigations, documentation, and evidence handling is preferred.
• Ability to interview witnesses and family members with sensitivity and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Respond to death scenes on an on-call basis and perform detailed scene inspections with photography.
• Obtain demographics and medical/social history via interviews; notify next of kin per policy.
• Make initial determinations and coordinate with pathologists; secure scene and property.
• Document findings in concise reports with photos and sketches as needed; maintain chain of custody.
• Coordinate with law enforcement and other agencies; maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
