Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an On Call Field Archaeologist Technician for temporary hourly fieldwork across Texas and nearby states. Responsibilities include pedestrian surveys, excavation of shovel tests, artifact recovery, and data recording.

Candidates should have an undergraduate degree in anthropology/archaeology and 3+ years of relevant field experience, with strong teamwork and safety adherence. Ideal candidates are local to Texas, Oklahoma, or Louisiana and available for project-based schedules

This Opportunity

WSPhas immediate openings for On Call Field Archaeologist Technician or multiple surveys planned in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas . This is an on-call, as needed, temporary hourly position. Hourly rates are industry competitive, depending on North American CRM experience and regional archaeological experience. Candidates local to Texas, Oklahoma, or Louisiana are ideal due to work location and schedule, but all qualified applicants will be considered. WSP also has ongoing Phase I, II, and III work in other states withadditional upcoming work.

Your Impact

• Assist with multiple Phase I Intensive Cultural Resources Surveys, with specific tasks including:
• Pedestrian survey ;
• excavation and recording shovel tests;
• recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials;
• use archaeological field forms to record archaeological data, including type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell) and soil textures, and other relevant information;
• Work effectively as part of a team;
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures;

Who You Are

• Undergraduate degree in anthropology/archaeology or a closely related field; Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience
• 3+ years relevant work experience.
• Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and be able to follow instructions.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites.

Additional / Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience with archaeological sites in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and the surrounding region;
• Pre-Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis; post-Contact artifact analysis
