Job summary

VDOT in Virginia is seeking candidates for a part-time standby position to support snow removal and inclement weather operations in Front Royal. The role involves 12-hour shifts and standby for call-in work during storms.

Responsibilities include operating loaders and plows, applying de-icers, performing heavy manual labor, and basic preventative maintenance on equipment used in winter operations. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

Ability to work in emergency operations environments and follow safety procedures.
Capable of performing heavy manual labor, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
Experience or ability to operate equipment used in winter operations (loaders, plows, etc.).
Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
A combination of training, experience or education in Emergency Operations, snow removal or related field is desirable.

Responsibilities

Emergency Operations: Assist and support operations for clearing snow and ice from roadways, applying abrasives and chemicals on road surfaces.
Manual Labor: Perform heavy manual labor such as installing tire chains, plow, blades, and perform debris removal.
Perform duties as assigned.: Perform duties, tasks, activities and/or projects as assigned.
Preventative Maintenance: Ability to perform preventative maintenance on equipment used during inclement weather to support emergency operations and clearing roadways.
