Job Description:

The primary function of this position is to transport and deliver meals to homebound clients of the Home-Delivered Meals Program in a timely, courteous, and efficient manner. This position ensures compliance with program, food safety, and Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) standards. This position reports directly to the Manager, In-Home & Nutrition Services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Transports and delivers meals from designated distribution sites to recipients’ homes throughout Monroe County in accordance with established delivery manifests.
  • Adheres to internal program guidelines and DOEA standards for home-delivered meals.
  • Ensures timely, courteous, and professional delivery of meals and related items.
  • Monitors and maintains proper meal temperatures to meet food safety standards.
  • Distributes nutrition education materials to recipients as directed.
  • Maintains accurate records of deliveries for billing, compliance, and records retention purposes.
  • Performs daily vehicle inspections and maintains vehicle cleanliness.
  • Transports vehicles for fueling, repairs, preventive maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Delivers materials or other items on behalf of Monroe County as assigned.
  • Completes all required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
  • In the event of special, emergency, or disaster situations, employee may be required to work schedules other than those for which they are regularly scheduled in any capacity deemed appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required.

Special Qualifications:
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
  • Must obtain Food Safety Handler certificate within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to pass Level II background screening.
  • Must complete Alliance for Aging Nutrition Program annually.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to have guidelines for work, but determine the approach for doing the work.
  • Ability to perform work that necessitates some specialized knowledge of clerical or trades-based tasks.
  • Some of the typical responsibilities include gathering, formatting, or visually analyzing data, OR operating equipment (passenger vehicles/passenger buses).
  • Ability to follow specific procedures that may result in interaction with co-workers, citizens, or other individuals.
  • Ability to make a few decisions regarding activities and priorities.
  • Ability to work with more than ten co-workers who are mostly engaged in the same activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • The work is not sedentary. It involves driving a paratransit vehicle each shift, moving in and out of the vehicle, assisting passengers in and out of the vehicle, loading and unloading wheelchairs, and exerting up to 50 pounds of force regularly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary movement and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ramps, stairs, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position‑to‑position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to move, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers or citizens accurately and concisely.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Visual Acuity: Have close and distance visual acuity to perform an activity such as reading documents, viewing a computer screen, driving, and/or viewing hazards on the road.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for periods of time, long distances, or moving from one work site to another.
