Job summary

A leading environmental consulting firm seeks On-Call Archaeological Crew Chiefs in St. Louis, MO, and Louisville, KY. Candidates must have an undergraduate degree in anthropology or archaeology, along with supervisory field experience in North American CRM. Responsibilities include supervising fieldwork and documenting findings. Qualifications

  • Six months supervisory field experience in North American CRM archaeology required.
  • Archaeological field school or equivalent experience necessary.
  • Ability to document findings through detailed note-taking.
  • At least six (6) months supervisory field experience in North American CRM archaeology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and physically able to conduct fieldwork in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising fieldwork on Phase I, II, and III projects.
  • Conduct archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation.
  • Document findings with detailed note taking.
  • Record archaeological data using field forms and notes.
  • Assist/lead other field team members.
  • Familiarity with GPS technology is preferred.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Adhere to company policies and safety procedures.

WSP USA is a global leader in environmental consulting, recently made stronger with the acquisition of POWER Engineers. Our Cultural Resources Management Team are located across the United States, with over 50 cultural resources professionals housed in our offices in the Midwest, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast United States.

WSP has immediate openings for multiple On-Call Archaeological Crew Chiefs in our St. Louis, MO, and Louisville, KY offices. We will consider other locations within our Midwest and Southeast regions. Be involved in projects with our Heritage and Cultural Resources practice, as part of our Earth and Environment Team, and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. This is an on-call, hourly position. Hourly rates are industry competitive, depending on North American CRM experience and regional archaeological experience).

Your Impact
  • Assist in supervising fieldwork on Phase I, II, and III projects, with specific tasks including:
    • archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation
    • excavation of cultural features
    • recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials
    • use archaeological field forms to record archaeological data, including type and number of artifacts, oil color (Munsell) and soil textures, and other relevant information
  • Document findings through detailed note taking
  • Ability to assist/lead other field team members
  • Familiarity with GPS technology is preferred
  • Work effectively as part of a team
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in anthropology / archaeology or a closely related field
  • Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience
  • At least six (6) months supervisory field experience in North American CRM archaeology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and be able to follow instructions

  • Single occupancy hotel rooms for the duration of the projects and paid directly by WSP
  • Flat-rate meal reimbursement, unless otherwise noted for specific projects
  • Transportation on workdays from hotel to work site provided by WSP, and workday begins and ends in hotel parking lot
