Job summary

The Town of South Hadley Police Department seeks dedicated individuals to join as substitute and per diem 911 Dispatchers. These temporary, non-benefited roles cover day, evening, and overnight shifts as needed, with potential to exceed 8 hours weekly based on operational needs.

Responsibilities include handling 911 and non-emergency calls, dispatching units, EMS dispatch, and maintaining secure records. Strong under-pressure performance, confidentiality, and bilingual abilities are valued.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of relevant work experience.
• Massachusetts E911 Certification and Training.
• Proficiency with computers, electronic data processing, and modern office practices.
• Ability to handle high-stress emergency situations calmly and effectively, with strong decision-making.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to give clear directions.
• Exceptional multitasking abilities and attention to detail.
• High level of confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information.
• Ability to work various shifts including weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Receiving, prioritizing, and documenting calls for police, fire, and medical services via 911, business lines, radio, and in-person requests.
• Dispatching emergency and non-emergency units/services based on situational needs.
• Disseminating information to department personnel and coordinating responses to incidents and emergencies.
• Managing information flow to and from various law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
• Maintaining records and utilizing LEAPS/CJIS/NCIC for data entry and retrieval.
• Operating camera systems to monitor facilities and support security.
• Using interpretation services for non-English callers.
• Staying current with guidelines, policies, and required training.
