Qualifications

Job Overview
A nationally recognized energy law firm is seeking an Oil & Gas Title Attorney with significant experience in New Mexico and/or West Texas to support its expanding Permian Basin practice. This is a full-time, remote or hybrid role offering the opportunity to work on high-level title and transactional matters for a diverse client base. The position is best suited for attorneys who are detail-oriented, growth-minded, and committed to delivering precise, high-quality legal solutions within a collaborative team.

Duties

Conduct title examinations and analyze relevant records including deeds, leases, and contracts

Draft title opinions, identifying ownership rights and potential defects, liens, or encumbrances

Perform due diligence for asset acquisitions, mergers, and other oil and gas transactions

Advise on legal risks and regulatory considerations in transactional matters

Draft, review, and negotiate oil and gas contracts including leases, joint operating agreements, and purchase/sale agreements

Stay current on federal, state, and local laws affecting oil and gas operations

Collaborate with litigation counsel in the event of disputes

Work as part of a team to execute complex legal projects with accuracy and timeliness

Meet a quarterly billing requirement of 450 hours

Engage in professional development and continuing legal education

Contribute to firm initiatives and special projects as needed

Requirements

Minimum 3 years of experience drafting title opinions for oil and gas lands in New Mexico and/or Texas

Proficiency in preparing unit-wide division order ownerships with tract and allocation factors

Demonstrated ability to handle high-volume, complex title matters independently

Strong ethical judgment and commitment to confidentiality

Education

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

Active license to practice law in the U.S.

Admission in Texas or New Mexico strongly preferred
