Qualifications

Monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents. Provides assistance to swimmers by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas.

Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid, completes accident reports completely and accurately.

Maintains order in splash pad area and main pool; enforces all facility rules.

Inspects facilities for cleanliness.

Reports anything that appears unsafe to pool supervisor and/or manager immediately.

Stays alert of signals from other guards.

Determines chlorine content and pH value of water with water testing kit.

Checks chlorine level on computer and matches with a manual reading.

Clears all swimmers from the water during an electrical storm.

Takes surveys of the bottom of the swimming and wading areas at closing time and between each change of activity.

Attends regularly scheduled drill meetings.

Maintains proper protective equipment for stations; ensures first-aid equipment is in good condition.

Assists pool attendants in cleaning pool area throughout the day and at closing time.

Lines pool benches properly at the end of the day.

Checks restrooms and changing areas regularly for cleanliness.

Operates the pool vacuum.

Works as a cashier.

May work in the pool refreshment stand.

Helps set up & tear down birthday parties.

Interacts with the public with a cheerful and positive attitude, solves guest problems and complaints in a proper manner, and maintains harmonious working relationships with fellow employees.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be 16 years of age.

Must be a certified Lifeguard or successfully obtain the certification prior to working a shift.

Must be available to work all of pool season, including holidays--from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

Schedule includes day, evening, and weekends. Lifeguards should expect to work consistent weekends.
