Job summary

MODEC America, Inc. seeks an Engineer III - Offshore Marine to lead design reviews, create drawings and specifications for marine systems and equipment for floating production units.

You will size mechanical equipment, develop datasheets, review vendor documents, and contribute to early hull development with shipyards, ensuring constructability and space optimization.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical or Marine Engineering with 5–7 years’ Offshore Marine experience.
  • MS in Engineering with 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical design of offshore Oil & gas / Shipbuilding.
  • Hands-on experience with marine systems design for FPSO, FSO or other floating production units.
  • Prior experience interfacing with shipyards in early hull development stages.

Responsibilities

  • Review client documents to understand requirements and basis of design; create drawings and specifications for shipboard machinery and marine systems.
  • Perform mechanical equipment sizing, develop requisition specs and datasheets, and conduct vendor document reviews and technical bid evaluations.
  • Develop equipment layouts, piping arrangements and 3D models with space optimization and constructability in mind.
  • Prepare reports, calculations, and technical specifications ensuring conformance to MODEC standards and policies.
  • Assist and oversee the work of drafters and junior engineers; help prepare project plans, schedules, budgets, and status reports.
  • Occasionally travel to field sites to collect data and address product-related field issues.

Job description

The Engineer III - Offshore Marine is responsible for creating and reviewing designs, drawings, specifications, etc. involving existing and new technology or applications. Typically works on concept studies, Pre-FEED and FEED engineering for floating productions systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review Client documents to understand project functional requirements and Basis of design. Creates drawings, specifications, etc. of shipboard machinery and marine system according to the functional and performance requirements given by client and internal MODEC standards.
  • Perform Mechanical Equipment sizing, develop Requisitions specification and datasheets, Vendor document reviews and technical bid evaluations.
  • Consults with other departments on equipment designs, problems, and interface information. Typically works on identifying value adders to the project and developing alternative solutions while communicating associated benefits and risks.
  • Work with design team to develop equipment layouts, piping arrangements and 3D models with a focus on space optimization and constructability.
  • Prepares Reports, technical calculations, presentations and engineering specifications and ensures conformance to all policies and procedures related to engineering functions.
  • Prepares reports, correspondence, procedures, specifications and technical calculations.
  • Prepares technical data and papers for sales personnel, customers and publications using good internal presentation and report writing skills.
  • Assists and/or checks the work of drafters and designers and less experienced engineers. Helps prepare project plans, schedules, budgets and status reports.
  • Travels occasionally to field sites to assist with product related problems or to obtain application data.
  • Develop PFDs / P&IDs, schematics, Hull specifications, and documentation for Client, CLASS review and shipyard cost estimating.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • BS in Mechanical or Marine Engineering with five to seven years’ experience in Offshore Marine. MS in Engineering with three to five years’ experience in mechanical design of offshore Oil & gas / Shipbuilding.
  • Hands on experience with marine systems design for FPSO, FSO or other floating production units.
  • Prior experience working at a shipyard or directly interfacing with shipyard at early stages of hull development.
  • Demonstrates capability for conceptualizing designs. Preferably prior experience includes working at early stages of the project. I.e. Concept study, Pre-FEED / FEED
  • Demonstrated ability to create functional & cost-effective designs that meet specification requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate life cycle cost estimates, develop alternative solutions and communicate associated benefits and risks.
  • Prior experience with package engineering activities for marine auxiliaries i.e. pumps, diesel engines, generators, HVAC etc.
  • Proficiency with piping engineering practices, industry codes and standards.
  • Understanding of internal economic factors affecting projects to which assigned.
  • Working knowledge of CLASS rules (ABS, DNV and other recognized class societies) and industrial standard for offshore facilities.
