Job summary

Coastal Alaska Premier Seafoods, a subsidiary of Coastal Villages Region Fund, is seeking deck hands for Crab Catcher vessels operating in the Pacific waters and around the Gulf of Alaska. You will sort crab by species, load and unload supplies, and maintain a clean, safe living environment on board.

You must be able to work 12–24 hour shifts in demanding conditions, pass safety drills, and move heavy gear and crab pots.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and understand English.
• Stamina for long shifts and physically demanding work.
• Ability to follow safety drills and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Sort crab by species and size, color and sex while meeting quality and regulatory standards.
• Maintain a safe and clean working and living environment.
• Discard cull items and foreign matter.
• Assist in offloads and load/unload supplies; may pass crane certification.
• Move live seafood manually and with machines.
• Work safely on uneven, moving surfaces around machinery and crab pots weighing 850–1150 pounds.
• Work 12–16 hour shifts, up to 24 hours as needed.
• Attend safety drills, training and education required by CVRF.
• Move heavy crab pots and equipment.
• Reports to the Vessel Captain.
• Other duties as assigned.
