PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Under the Print Manager ’s direction, m onitors the overall safety, set up, quality and operation s of print and sheeting operations . Coordinate s and oversee s the production schedule for the sheetfed/offset conventional printing presses (KBA) and Sheeter operations . Actively supports the print crews and operators in order to produce high-quality jobs to customer specifications in an efficient and safe manner.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Review and discuss schedule, production and run status with lead and /or manager of prior shift to ensure understanding of production schedule and customer needs
  • Effectively communicate with all operators at beginning of the shift to review and confirm understanding of production schedule and job requirements
  • Actively engage with all operators to oversee and approve proper and timely set up of make readies and adherence with estimated run speeds
  • Monitor and direct the overall quality of jobs sheeted and printed including the use of the correct board, quantities, sheet size, viscosity, color, straining and quality of inks according to SCT Quality Standards and Operating Procedures; consistently adhere to quality standards and model the actions and behaviors that promote a culture focused on the customer and serving others
  • Responsible for verifying that all operators are consistently performing required quality checks and obtaining the required press approvals for all jobs to ensure we are producing high quality packaging
  • Coordinate and oversee break schedule in accordance with production schedule; operate presses through lunch breaks to maximize efficiencies and minimize downtime
  • Review daily production reports including time gained and lost ; review with team members daily to create awareness and drive improvements
  • Provides coaching and feedback in s upport of operators while assisting with troubleshooting and other production problems that aris e; ensures resolution of issues and assist s in repair of machine malfunctions when necessary
  • In accordance with our 5S system, ensure operators maintain a clean work environment including the m achine, floors, desks, and fans; assist operators with routine cleaning and maintenance including handling and stacking of product when needed
  • Responsible for overseeing effective training and onboarding of new team members ; assists Safety Coordinator with ensuring all workplace and product safety training is completed in a timely manner
  • Oversees and directs Print Apprentice with completing training objectives, providing guidance, coaching and feedback to ensure development objectives are being met
  • Promptly respond to emails and answer phone calls about inquiries on job progress, ink availability, scheduled jobs and maintenance issues ; assist with ordering supplies or inks if necessary
  • Monitor status of communication boards and actively work to address and help resolve any outstanding issues in a timely fashion
  • Ensure operators have the necessary equipment and tools assigned to the machine , and notify the supervisor of any tools that would add to the efficie ncy and safety of the operation
  • Responsibilities include operating press on occasion if a staffing issue or needs arise in order to meet customer deadlines
  • Monitor s and complete s Daily Checklist and Production Report with all required information ; submit s necessary reports to manager at end of shift
  • Assist s with press checks and interact s with customers while positively and professionally representing SCT
  • Actively respond s and report s all workplace safety incidents when the y occur and assist s Safety Manager with investigations for the department ensuring prompt action is taken
  • Order any supplies needed for daily functions of Pressroom
  • Effectively utilize s any machine downtime (not including approved breaks) by coordinating and assisting with other duties and tasks

AUTHORITY: M ust have the ability to lead a crew to execute the demands of the printing operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Minimum of 5 years of progressive print production experience in a Press Operator or related role; 3+ years experience operating offset / sheet fed conventional printing press es . Folding carton industry and experience operating a KBA press is preferred. Experience leading or supervising others is a plus. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must become a Certified Fork Lift operator in accordance with SCT training and carry a copy of your certification with you.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. F requently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. F requently must lift/move 25 to 50 pounds. M ust be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during his/her shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully perform ing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which may require both eye and ear protection in some areas . Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, if a machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job , q uestions regarding such operation should be directed to your supervisor as they arise.
